The truth is, I make less than 5% of my income from the ‘work at
home in your pajamas’ niche - even though it’s what I’m most
passionate about. Therefore, when you see these PublisherAcademy
communications from me, you know I’m mainly doing it to teach and
give back. Not to mention that I enjoy talking about this stuff.

One of my goals for the New Year is to get more involved in this
niche. I think I have some knowledge and experience people can
learn from being that I’ve been doing this since 2001 and have
grossed over a million dollars in sales after starting out with
about $200.

That’s the beauty of the Internet. There is no other business you
can start in your spare time with little or no startup capital, no
barriers to entry and zero risk. With real income and all the tax
benefits of owning a business.

Think about that for a moment. It defies everything you’ve been
taught about business.

Websites, blogs, ebooks, videos, audios, forums, newsletters,
membership sites, etc. all have one thing in common - they are
methods of delivering a product or service and don’t cost squat to
produce. Forget about your pre-conceived notions, these things are
commodities online and the cost is not a real consideration.

You can literally buy a template for $60, get hosting for $10, a
domain for $8, use free open source software to add text to your
site, use PayPal to accept payments and be in business the same
day. You don’t have to be very technical to do this and it will
look so professional that no one can tell that you’re not an
established business.

There are a gazillion people online all searching for information
and all with their own problems, needs and desires. They are just
waiting for you to step in and be a supplier, provide a solution,
or simply give them something that makes them happy and
entertained.

Years from now people will look back on this opportunity like the
California Gold Rush. The Internet is that type of life changing
technology which everyone ‘in the know’ will benefit from. It has
already made millionaires out of many average everyday people.

The only thing you have to risk in this business is your time and
I’ve never met anyone who has spent years trying to do this and has
failed. Trying is the main word in that sentence - people who take
action and actually try, will succeed.

But, you need some instruction. You need to learn what works from
someone who has done it successfully. This is what I’m planning to
offer in 2008. Knowing what I know, you WILL make money.

However, I need your feedback to help me help you…

I’m still trying to get a feel for the best way I can help people
succeed. I’m considering a few different options which I’d like to
get your feedback on. Based on your feedback, I may do all or none
of these in 2008:

1. A Members-Only Online Forum where you can ask questions and
learn from myself, forum members, and other experts I bring in.

2. A comprehensive instructional course with text, audio, and video.

3. A Limited Enrollment, Personal Coaching / Mentoring Program
which will provide one-on-one instruction.

4. A premium physical newsletter mailed to your home each month (or
bi-monthly) revealing insider secrets to making money online.

5. An online program which gives you your own product to sell, a
site to sell it on, and a step by step guide for making it
successful.

This is a bit long today, so I would recommend printing it out
because it contains some jewels you don’t want to miss.

You may be curious as to why I chose Publisher Academy as the name
for my site. It’s because I consider myself an Internet Publisher.
I make money by publishing information. I use many different
product types to deliver this information (ebooks, cds, print
books, cookbooks, newsletters, forums, blogs, etc.), but at the end
of the day, my product is information.

Many people who do what I do call themselves Internet Marketers.
I’ve always felt that that term focuses on marketing and making
money rather than on delivering good content. It takes the focus
away from the product and places it on the sale. And you wonder
why there is so much crappy information out there that’s being
overhyped and underdelivered.

By focusing on the quality of the information I provide, I’m forced
to keep my “ear to the street” and understand what people want.
The more I know about what the people in my niche are experiencing,
the better my products will be. By doing this I also ensure that I
never run out of things to talk about :-).

To be honest, I publish newsletters in several different niches and
many times I don’t even come up with the content. I often let my
subscribers think of it for me. For example, today’s newsletter is
inspired by Julia. She’s the subscriber who just made her first
sale. My conversation with her is more important then anything I
can come up with myself.

Here’s a little background. Julia started a blog to promote my
cookbook as an affiliate. She’s been writing articles and posting

Affiliate programs are a great way to make money without having a
product. You’ll find that many sites that sell a product also have
an affiliate program that allows you to earn a percentage of the
sale just by referring others.

If you are not familiar with affiliate programs or you want to

first sale promoting your cookbook, “America’s Most Wanted Recipes.”

I’m flying pretty high right now. I was getting a little frustrated
because I was running out of things to write to promote your
cookbook. I’ve written just a couple articles, and posted a few
ads. Just those couple things have worked with one sale.

So I’m off to write more. I’m still a little stuck on what to write
about to promote a cookbook, so any suggestions would be greatly

Hi Julia,

That’s wonderful news! I’m very excited for you because I remember
how that feels. You’ll find that this stuff really does work and
will get easier for you with experience.

You can find plenty of things that affiliates have written to
promote my cookbook by doing a search for both of these keywords:

2cook.hop.clickbank.net
recipesecrets.net

The next step for you is to start building your own email list with
the traffic you’re receiving. That way you will have the
opportunity to promote to visitors more than once. You will also
be able to promote other related products and maybe even launch
your own information product one day. Having a list gives you the
power to create traffic to your site whenever you choose.

To be a successful affiliate, you should also get familiar with the
art of “Pre-Selling.” That is warming the potential customer up to
the offer before he or she actually sees it. Affiliates who learn
to do this well see a dramatic increase in their commissions and
conversion rates.

If you think about it, it only makes sense. A visitors landing on a
sales page is naturally skeptical, but if the product has been
recommended by someone they trust and if they have seen “social
proof” of the product working well, they will be much more likely

I receive many emails from subscribers who have created and
collected a lot of recipes over the years.  Many of them often say
they would like to write their own cookbook one day but don’t know
where to start.  They also don’t realize how easy it is to do and
how much they can potentially make from a good idea for a cookbook.

Yes, I know that’s easy for me to say as the author of 5
self published cookbooks which collectively have sold over 30,000
copies.  But, the truth is, people love cookbooks!  Many
people collect them and they make great gifts, especially for
Christmas.  It makes sense because people have to eat, right?

And, as crazy as it sounds, I have developed a system that anyone
can use for creating and publishing a cookbook in under 30 days and
for under $300.  This system includes an exact blueprint you can

I figure by publicly announcing the new course and the new site it
will put some pressure on me and motivate me to get it done. 

This is my first post on this new blog.  I haven’t had time to add any bells and whistles to the blog yet, so excuse me if it looks plain and newbie like.

Here’s what’s on my mind today:

We are all creatures of habit.  We do things that we are comfortable doing over and over again.  This is because we subconsiously associate pleasure with our comfortable habits and we associate pain with the unknown.

They say that “if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always had.”  To be successful often requires you to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. 

I don’t want to get too philosophical today.  However, I will say that I’m trying to lead by example with this blog and the free videos I produce.  That’s because videos and blogging are outside of my comfort zone and a challenge for me.  I realized this when I found myself making up any creative excuse to get this done later.  I have to watch tv, or surf the web, or even clean up the yard. Anything to avoid doing something uncomfortable.

So for me, this blog is not really about money.  It’s more about disciplining myself to take action and get comfortable doing new things. The reward is teaching you some stuff that can hopefully make you some money.

That being said, here’s a new video I finished last night at 2am (after procrastinating for days).  It will show you some simple ways to start an online newsletter, get free traffic, and build your list. 

It’s soooo true that the money is in the list.  The video shows proof of how I use my newsletter to make up to $50,000 per month.  Not bad for a lazy slacker like me :-).
